About City
Orlando, Florida, is a city of approximately 200,000 people located in east/central Florida. Orlando is the sixth largest city in Florida. The Orlando metropolitan area is home to nearly 1.8 million people. Orlando is the undisputed theme-park capital of the United States. It is home to the world famous Walt Disney World Resort, as well as numerous other theme parks. Factors taken into account in the ranking include: the number of sports teams, restaurants, dance performances, toy stores, the amount of a city's budget that is spent on recreation, and other factors. Orlando is also consistently ranked as one of the top tourist destinations in the world. Florida continues to rank third in the nation in the cumulative number of AIDS cases (126,581 in 2012) and second in the nation in the cumulative number of HIV cases (49,058 in 2012). There are over 12,500 individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Central Florida. 1 in 4 new cases of HIV are among those ages 13 – 24. Approximately 20% of individuals living with HIV/AIDS are unaware of their diagnosis. Of those persons living with HIV disease in Florida, 49% are black, 29% are white and 20% are Hispanic. Men represent 70% of the cases. Persons over the age of 45 years represent 60%. In Florida, 15% of all new HIV infections reported among females in 2012 were under the age of 25. Florida Department of Health estimates that there are 130,000 individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Florida.
